This specimen has many crystals of rhodonite to 1.4 cm across. Most have
partial terminations and dull luster which is typical for Långban. The colour
is rich raspberry red. Other species present are
barite as
light etched tabular crystals,
hematite
as crystals and the matrix is mostly fine grained
garnet.
This specimen is predominantly smoky
quartz of
massive habit with included crystalline pods of rich red colored rhodonite.
Quartz
was described as "relatively rare" in the Långban skarns. In some localities
the rhodonite was sufficiently ornate to be used as decorative stone.
