The habit of this specimen is acicular with myriad small crystals closely packed. When viewed close up the individual crystals are readily visible. Rhodochrosite from the Black Rock mine is surprisingly scarce despite the relative abundance of the mineral at the other three nearby mines - the Hotazel, N'Chwaning, and Wessels mines (Kalahari Manganese Field).

This is a specimen of deep cherry red rhodochrosite with attached tetrahedrite matrix. The crystal is a fully developed rhombohedron.
