Polylithionite under SW-UV light
Origin: Illimaussaq, Greenland, Danmark
Owner: Axel Emmermann
Sample size: about 30 mm across

This mineral fluoresces in a weak greenish yellow color. The fluorescence seems stronger in some parts of the specimen and forms bright yellow curved lines. This is merely a consequence of the mica-like structure. The light, emitted by the fluorescence, is reflected internally and exits the thin layers where they are fractured. The activator probably is lithium.
