Pabstite

Patches colourless pabstite indistinguishable from matrix, however bright blue fluorescent

Really a nondescript mineral with clear to white anhedral grains in recrystallized siliceous limestone. It's easy to detect where in the matrix the pabstite occurs as it is strongly fluorescent, light blue. This specimens is fairly rich and is associated with tremolite.

Fluorescent blue grains of clear to white pabstite to 3mm hard to distinguish from the tremolite/actinolite matrix. Stibnite association. Ex. Kidwell collection
Origin: Kal-Kar quarry, Santa Cruz Co., California, U.S.A. (type locality)
Sample size: 5 x 3 x 3 cm (top), 7 x 6 x 4 cm (2nd row), 5 x 4 x 3 cm (3rd row), 4.5 x 4 x 3.5 cm (bottom)

Nondescript white crystal to 5-6 mm in matrix. You cannot really discern the crystal until you place an ultraviolet light under short wave on the specimen. The right photo shows a strong response to UV SW, a typical bright blue.
Origin: Pacific Limestone Products quarry (Kalkar quarry), Santa Cruz Co., California, United States
Sample size: 4.5 x 4 x 2.5 cm

Origin: Kalkar Quarry, Santa Cruz Co., California, U.S.A.
Sample size: 4.5 x 3 cm specimen with grains of pabstite. Pabstite fluoresces under SW UV light as seen in the photo on the right.
