Origin: Dal Negorsk, Primorskiy Kray, Russia

Specimen of quartz and byssolite hosting a druse of brownish violet colored crystals of axinite to 2.5 cm in length. This is perhaps the most famous axinite locality in California as it was encountered during the construction of the New Melones Dam floodway. Soon after it was uncovered it was lost forever with the completion of the dam.
