 Specimen with a single octahedral crystal of gem cuprite 1.2 cm across. The photo on the right was shot in the dark with the crystal back lit to display the gemmy nature of the crystal.

Sample size: 3.2 x 2.2 cm

 

  

When backlit the gemmy nature of the interior of the crystal is readily evident. Crystals of cuprite from this locality ar typically covered with malachite. This specimen has evidently had the malachite removed although there are traces still visible.
