Chlorargyrite

This specimen of gossan has some emormous crystals of chlorargyrite. The largest is 0.7 cm across! Chlorargyrite is a simple halide of silver with the chemical formula AgCl. In this specimen there is a moderate amount of bromine replacing the chlorine - hence it is referred to as embolite though this is not a recognized mineral species.
