The Arkenstone

This specimen has a rich zone of caryopilite crystallization on an area of drusy garnet 2 x 1.5 cm. The matrix is solid magnetite. Caryopilite crystals are found to about 1.5 mm across. The colour is uniformly chocolate brown most likely due to coating of some other mineral. Flink described this as Ektropite in 1917 but it was later found to be caryopilite. Also present are small 1-2 mm rhombic crystals of calcite white weakly fluoresce orange under SW UV light. This specimen comes from a restricted find in the Norrbotten workings.
