Caryinite

  

Reddish caryinite associated with svabite and richterite

  

 

  

Dark red crystalline grains with pink grains of rhodonite. Ex DeVito Collection

Origin: Långban mine, Långban, Värmland, Sweden (type locality)

Sample size: 3 x 3 x 2 cm (top), 7 x 4.5 x 4 cm (2nd row), 5 x 3.5 x 2 cm (bottom)

This specimen of massive calcite has embedded crystals of black braunite (poorly formed crystals) and a very large mass of caryinite which is reddish brown in colour. Caryinite was found in several areas of the mine but only very rarely in anything resembling good crystals.
