Calcite

  
  
This specimen is comprised of spiky calcite crystals with attached fluorite (violet) and scattered cinnamon coloured sphalerite crystals. Also present are scattered sprays of the rare mineral alstonite.
     
Calcite on fluorite
Origin: Minerva #1 Mine, Hardin Co., Illinois, United States
Sample size: 5.7 x 4 x 2.4 cm (top/2nd row), 9.2 x 6 x 5.5 cm (bottom)
 
     
This specimen consists of barite replacing epitaxially an earlier generation of calcite. A subsequent phase of calcite was deposited to finish it off.
