This specimen is mostly massive, fine grained
hematite
with numerous flat lying and enormous crystals of barylite. The largest is 1.2
cm across!! This specimen was found by Finneman at the 150 meter level of the
Hindenburg workings. The crystals on this specimen exceed those from this same
find that are in the Swedish Museum of Natural History. Other species present
are
garnet and
calcite.
This specimen was found on the dumps by Kjell Gatedal of the School of Mines
and Geology in Filipstad, Sweden. The rock is comprised of
garnet
and
magnetite rich skarn with open cavities containing crystals of
tilasite
(pink), abundant
romeite
(reddish brown) and bright white barylite. The largest barylite crystals are
over 4 mm in length.

This specimen consists of an
aegirine
crystal with a spray of terminated crystals of barylite. The largest in the
spray is 1.3 cm in length and is doubly terminated.
