Reflected/transmitted colour: opaque to sub-translucent, deep red, polished section in air grayish white with a light brown tinge, darker in oil, brownish gray. Internal reflections are always present, commonly red as in cuprite, occasionally brownish red as in manganite, especially well visible in oil.
