Reflected/transmitted colour: light brown, ligh yellow, light greenish blue, light blue to black, polished section gray. Strong and abundant, white to bluish and blue-gray, internal reflections (in contrast to sphalerite)
Pleochroism: usually weak, ε > w or ε < w
Optical isotropy/anisotropy: uniaxial, polished section anisotropy masked by internal reflections

Refractive indices: w = 2.488, ε = 2.561
Birefringence δ/bireflectance: 0.073, polished section very weak (may be visible in oil on close examination)
