Cleavage: 1; {10-11} perfect

Tenacity: conchoidal to uneven, brittle

Streak: white

 

Synonyms/varieties: chalybite, oligonite (Mn-rich variety), sphaerosiderite (spherically-aggregated variety)

 

Comments: series with magnesite and with rhodochrosite
