Colour: colourless, pale green, dark reddish brown from alteration

Habit: crystals octahedral or tabular, in parallel groups, massive, granular, coarse fibrous

Hardness: 3 to 3.5

Specific gravity: 3.29

Cleavage: 1; {010} poor

Tenacity: uneven, brittle
