Colour: black, dark brown, amber to yellow

Luster: adamantine, dull, metallic

Habit: crystals pseudocubic, often highly modified, or pseudo-octahedral, massive granular or reniform

Hardness: 5.5

Specific gravity: 4.01

Cleavage: 1; {001} imperfect

Tenacity: subconchoidal to uneven, brittle

Streak: colourless  to pale gray
