Origin of name:  For Jean Bandy (1900-1991), American engineer, who, with her husband Mark Bandy, translated Agricola's "De Natura Fossilium" from original Latin and who donated to the Los Angeles Natural History Museum the collection on one of whose specimens this new mineral was discovered.
